Busted Rich Women

No matter how rich you are, or how powerful you may be, no one is above the law. What gives validation to the aforementioned thought? Well, there have been several powerful and rich women in the past who have faced the wrath of the law enforcers despite their high social standing.

Alice Walton is arguably the most high-profile woman in the world to have herself arrested by the law enforcers. One of the surviving heirs to the Walmart fortune, Alice Walton has been apprehended for Driving under the Influence on more than three occasions! On one occasion, she even paid $925 to avoid jail time. Her astronomical fortune has saved her several times. Back in 1989, Walton did not face any charge for killing a 50-year-old named Oleta Hardin in a car crash!

Ding Yuxin is another rich, powerful woman who has found herself in hot waters. The former chairwoman of Boyou Investment Management Corp was found guilty of offering a bribe of 40 million yuan to the former railway minister, Liu Zhijun back in 2013. In addition to receiving a jail sentence of 20 years, she was forced to cough out a massive fine of 2.5 billion yuan. However, that´s not where it stopped—she was even stripped of 20.2 million yuan of personal property.

Ding Yuxin is not the only high-profile woman on the list who has had run-ins with the law enforcers. Jacqueline Badger Mars, the co-owner of the Mar Inc. candy company, has also been apprehended. Back in 2013, she was charged guilty of reckless driving causing a fatality–killing an 86-year-old, Irene C. Ellisor. She was asked to pay a fine of $2,500 and was given a six-month suspension. The reason Mars was given such a lenient sentence was because of the fact that she wasn´t found intoxicated at the time of the accident; the fact that the casualty, Irene, wasn´t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident also helped make Mars´ sentence more lenient.

Unfortunately, that´s not where the list stops; it continues with the case of Martha Stewart. Back in 2004, Martha Stewart was found guilty of insider trading. After the conclusion of her trial, she was found guilty on felony charges of conspiracy, obstruction of an agency proceeding, and making false statements to federal investigators. What punishment was she slapped with? Well, she was forced to stay behind bars for 5 months!
